About Format Remover
What Format Remover is, how the free online format remover works, and why your text never leaves your browser.

Why this site exists
Format Remover started with a familiar paper cut: copying text from Word, Google Docs, a web page or ChatGPT and pasting it somewhere else — a CMS, a spreadsheet, a CRM note — and watching fonts, colors, links and stray spacing come along for the ride. Cleaning it up by hand takes minutes and never quite finishes.
This site is a dedicated, single-purpose answer to that problem: paste text, get clean plain text, keep your paragraphs. No account, no limits, no upload.
How it works
The cleaning engine runs entirely in your browser as plain JavaScript. When you paste rich text, the tool reads the HTML flavor of your clipboard, removes the formatting layers you choose (HTML tags and attributes, Word junk, whitespace debris, typographic characters, and hidden AI-output artifacts such as zero-width characters), and produces structured plain text — one line per paragraph, exactly what you pasted, minus the noise.
Because nothing is processed on a server:
- Your text never leaves the page — suitable for contracts and drafts.
- It works offline once the page has loaded.
- There is no queue, no rate limit and no size metering.
What it is not
Format Remover is deliberately not a suite of fifty unrelated utilities. One site, one job: removing formatting from text. If a feature does not serve that — sign-ups, upsells, ad interstitials — you will not find it here.
Contact
Hi, I'm Remond — I built Format Remover and run it as a one-person side project. I'm a programmer, and in my spare time I like tinkering with AI tools, which is where this site came from. Questions, bug reports and suggestions are all welcome at contact@formatremover.com.
Spotted a case the cleaner mangles? The fastest path is the settings panel: turn the relevant layer off and the structure usually survives.
