What this AI text cleaner removes
Every row below is a real removal the tool performs. Here is what the junk looks like, where AI text picks it up, and why it matters.
| Removed junk | What it looks like | Where it comes from | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Markdown markers | **bold**, # Heading, * lists, `code`, [text](link) | ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini write in Markdown, where the markers are meant to be rendered, not pasted | Asterisks, hash signs and backticks print as literal junk in Word, Google Docs and CMS editors |
| Zero-width spaces (ZWSP/ZWNJ) | invisible: a word can carry hidden zero-width characters with no visible gap | Inserted at word boundaries by model output and some chat interfaces | They inflate character counts and break exact-match search, regex and JSON keys |
| Non-breaking spaces (NBSP) | a normal-looking space that never wraps and resists trimming | Rich-text editors and chat interfaces use them for spacing | Find-and-replace, string comparison and column splits fail on the invisible difference |
| Smart quotes | “curly” quotes and ‘apostrophes’ | Polished-prose punctuation in the model's training style | Straight quotes are what code, JSON keys and most CMS fields expect |
| Em and en dashes | a—b, a–b | Polished AI prose leans on em dashes, which now read as a stylistic tell | Normalized to a plain hyphen that forms, slugs and spreadsheets accept |
| Ellipsis glyph | one … character instead of three dots | Typographic style in polished prose | Search and diff tools treat … and ... as different strings |
| Lookalike letters (homoglyphs) | Cyrillic а that renders exactly like Latin a | Rare model artifacts and multi-step copy chains | Invisible in review, but they break dedup, exact-match search and code identifiers |
| Invisible control characters | byte-order marks, soft hyphens, bidi marks, none of them rendered | Copy chains through rich-text sources and some chat exports | They can flip text direction in renderers and break parsers and imports |
How to clean AI text in three steps
No setup, no account. The cleaner opens with AI-output cleaning already switched on.
- STEP 01

Paste your AI text
Copy the answer from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any chatbot and paste it into the left box. You can also drop a .txt or .md file. Your original text stays exactly as pasted; the tool never edits the input.
- STEP 02

Click “Clean text”
The output pane fills with cleaned text and a count of removed characters. Open the Removed Details tab to see exactly what went. Nothing is hidden.
- STEP 03

Copy or download
Take the clean text back to your document with one click. The input stays put, so you can re-clean with different toggles any time.
What an AI text cleaner can and can't fix
This tool deletes formatting junk and normalizes characters. That fixes real problems, and it has limits worth stating plainly.
It fixes (formatting and characters)
- Markdown markers: asterisks, hash signs, backticks and link brackets printed as literal junk
- Hidden characters: zero-width spaces, non-breaking spaces, control characters you can't see
- Punctuation tells: curly quotes, em dashes and ellipsis glyphs become plain equivalents
- Fake spacing: collapsed double spaces, trimmed line ends, removed empty lines
- Lookalike letters: Cyrillic or Greek homoglyphs turned back into Latin characters
It can't fix (content and detection)
- Your wording. The tool never rewrites or paraphrases; every word stays yours
- AI-detector verdicts. Detectors read word choice and statistics, not formatting; cleaning characters does not change that
- Embedded watermarking. Text-watermark schemes operate at word-selection level, which no character tool can remove
- Facts, errors or hallucinations. Cleanup cannot make wrong text right
Clean text reads normally and pastes safely. What cleaning does not change: your wording, and how a detector reads it.
AI Text Cleaner vs pasting as plain text
Your editor already has a plain-text paste. Here is what it keeps that this tool removes.
| What you get | AI Text Cleaner | Plain-text paste (Ctrl+Shift+V / Keep Text Only) |
|---|---|---|
| Markdown markers (**, #, backticks) | Removed | Stay. Plain paste strips styles, not typed characters |
| Hidden characters (zero-width, NBSP, BOM) | Removed or normalized | Usually survive, because they are characters, not formatting |
| Curly quotes, em dashes, ellipsis | Normalized to plain equivalents | Stay exactly as typed by the model |
| Paragraphs and line breaks | Kept. Blank lines collapse, structure stays | Kept in most apps, but behavior varies between Word, Docs and CMS editors |
| Seeing what changed | Removed-characters count plus a details view | No report. Differences show up later |
| Where it works | Any app with a browser | Only where the shortcut or paste option exists; many CMS and web apps lack it |
